The Republic is now acceptingย submissions for its April/May 2018 issue, in which scholars and experts will critically discuss the ever-evolving interactions betweenย religion and the state.
We expect each submissionย to elaborate on key issues relevant to the significance of religion to governanceย across the world’s societies. In light of this,ย we are especially interested in insightful thoughts on:
โ Religion, nationalism and state-building; colonization, religion and decolonization;
โ Globalization,ย religion and contemporary African culture e.g.ย the pentecostal revolution in Nigeria;
โ The significance of spirituality and religion to conflicts and peace-building;
โ ย Law, justice and religion;
โ Broader dynamics between religious ideologyย and governing institutions; and
โ The political significance of traditional African religions.
We are looking forย analytical and engaging essays, lectures, speeches and book reviews that, without sacrificing academic rigour, can serve as authoritative/definitive subject-matter guides to both scholars and professionals that may have limited knowledge on Africanย affairs.
Overall, we expect submissionsย ranging between 1,500 words (minimum) and 6,000 words (maximum), and will be acceptingย first drafts untilย Sunday 25 February,ย 2018.
