Is Nigeria Better Served with Parliamentary Governance?
Could a return to parliamentary governance provide the governance Nigerians yearn for?
Nigerian legislators, mostly in the opposition, began a subtle campaign in 2023 seeking a return to a parliamentary form of governance last operated during the First Republic (1960 to 1966). There is no indication at this time that the government or the ruling party supports this, which is the most glaring difference between Nigeria and Togo, where a recent referendum will lead to a return to parliamentary government.
