Looking beyond SARS will necessitate an understanding of intersecting and inherited struggles. We are inheritors of Haiti’s revolution, whether we choose to be or not, and we are dependent on the Movement for Black Lives in America as we are on the movement against Gender-Based Violence in Namibia.

Violence against women carries with it the warning that it can happen again; that it is inevitable; that the power to harm still resides where it originated, with the oppressor class—men.

Feminism’s transformative power is one Nigeria greatly needs; but the work of unravelling patriarchal power is not a feminist burden to bear.
