he Republic is now accepting submissions for its October/November 2017 issue, in which scholars and experts will critically discuss the Biafran War, amid wider debates on historical and contemporary conflicts in Nigeria and across Africa.
We expect each essay to elaborate on key issues relevant to the categories and drivers of violence, and the impacts of violence on communities. In light of this, we are especially interested in insightful thoughts on Nnamdi Kanu and the reemergence of Biafran angst; the internationalization of Boko Haram; theoretical explanations of post-colonial violence; gendered deconstructions of violence; as well as critical revisitations of historical African civil wars.
We are looking for analytical and engaging essays, lectures, speeches and book reviews that, without sacrificing academic rigour, can serve as authoritative/definitive subject-matter guides to both scholars and professionals that may have limited knowledge on African affairs.
Overall, we expect submissions ranging between 1,500 words (minimum) and 6,000 words (maximum), and will be accepting first drafts until Friday 22 September, 2017.
