Nigerian politician, Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, who served as the governor of Oyo State from 12 January to 7 December 2006 and from 29 May 2007 to 29 May 2011, died this morning in Ogbomosho, Oyo State. He was 71.

From station officer to assistant commissioner, Alao-Akala held several positions in the Nigeria Police Force before starting his political career. He served as the chairman of Ogbomoso North Local Government from 1999 to 2002 and as deputy governor of Oyo State from May 2003 to January 2006.
