Sierra Leone, a West African nation steeped in a tumultuous political history, is now gripped in what was a highly anticipated and fiercely contested election. The nation is, quite decisively, at a critical junction as incumbent President Julius Maada Bio secured a second term amidst a fervour of discontent and growing opposition.

The political climate, simmering for months, appeared to have reached boiling point. THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE ELECTION

These Sierra Leonean elections over the years, charged with anticipation and strife, signify much more than a democratic process of choosing the nation’s next leader.
